puerto rico board gameIn each round, players take turns to choose roles. When a role is chosen, everyone is able to take and action related to that role. The player who chose the role receives a small bonus for doing so. Roles that are not selected are awarded a doubloon bonus at the end of each turn. The next player who selects that role gets to keep any doubloon bonus that comes with it. This encourages players to select all roles so as to ensure that their opponents don’t get this bonus.

Players earn victory points for owning buildings and shipping goods. Shipping chips track the number of goods you have shipped. The shipping chip value is kept secret from others. As the game progresses, the unknown shipping value will require players to think about their options before choosing a role that may end the game.
