What is Mysterium about?
Mysterium is a cooperative board game for 2-7 players that blends elements from Clue and Dixit. Players take on the roles of psychics who must solve a murder mystery by interpreting clues given by the ghost of the murdered servant. The ghost is played by one player who cannot speak and communicates solely through abstract image cards.
Gameplay and Mechanics
- Players are divided into psychics (who guess the murderer, location, and murder weapon) and the ghost (who provides visions).
- The ghost has a deck of vision cards with abstract images that they use to provide clues. Each psychic must guess their unique combination of person, location, and object by interpreting these visions.
- After the ghost provides clues, psychics use crystal ball tokens to guess their answers within a 2-minute timer. They may also use Clairvoyance tokens to predict if other players’ guesses are correct.
- The game plays out over seven rounds (hours), during which the psychics must solve the mystery before time runs out.
- Difficulty can be adjusted by adding more choices for each category (person, location, object).
Why Is Mysterium fun?
Mysterium is engaging due to its cooperative nature, immersive theme, and reliance on abstract thinking and teamwork. Players enjoy the challenge of interpreting the ghost’s clues, which can be linked to specific colors, images, or emotions, making every game unique. The beautiful artwork and atmospheric gameplay enhance the experience.
