What is Terraforming Mars Venus Next about?
Terraforming Mars: Venus next, the second expansion to the smash-hit terraforming Mars, continues the journey of humanity as we terraform Earth’s closest neighbor, Venus.
The World Government funds terraforming of Venus in Venus Next. The game adds 50 project cards and 5 corporations focused on making Venus habitable. New floaters, milestones, awards, tags, and terraforming parameters provide players with more paths to victory.
Here’s what in this expansion:
49 new project cards
They function like the other cards in the main deck. The floater strategy is among the new strategies. A floater resource is infrastructure which floats in Venus’ thick clouds. In Venus Next, floaters work just like animal- and microbe resources, but many cards allow adding floaters to other cards. Combinations are endless. Several cards feature the new Venus tag, which adds no new rules, but creates more interesting combinations.
5 new corporation cards
This expansion adds a lot of replayability with 5 new corporations. A couple of them are also perfect for the base game, and some mesh well with the new floater resources.
Additional milestone and award tile
In either the base game or the expansion, the sixth milestone and award are added. As usual, there are only three maps to claim.
A Venus side board
There are four new Venusian, Mercurian, and Lunar cities on this board. Mostly, it introduces a terraforming parameter that works exactly like temperature and oxygen scales. Terraforming on Venus is represented by it.
A new game phase
The Solar Phase follows the Production Phase. In this phase, the World Government aids the terraforming by having the first player increase any of the 4 terraforming parameters without getting any bonuses. The game effectively takes the same amount of time to play as with just the base game, but with a lot more variety.
