How to play Baccarat in Simple Steps

A quick reference guide on how to play Baccarat. Have some fun with your friends using play chips or play with real money. Remember, if you play with real money, please gamble responsibly.

What is the object of the game Baccarat?

There are 2 sides in the game: Player and Banker. The dealer flips cards for both sides and calculates their hand value to determine which side wins. The goal of Baccarat is to bet on the winning side or a tie.

Baccarat Setup

A game of Baccarat uses 6 to 8 standard 52-card decks. Shuffle the decks. One of you is the dealer. You can take turns to be the dealer. Obviously, in the casino, there is a dealer there for you.

A quick guide on how to play Baccarat.

Players place their bets on Player, Banker or Tie.

Bet on by placing your chips on either Player Wins, Banker Wins or a Tie.

The dealer flips 2 cards for the Player and Banker side.

There is a Player side and a Banker side on the table. The dealer flips 2 cards from the deck for each side.

Calculate the hand value of the Player and Banker

For each side (Player and Banker), calculate the value of their hands.
10s and Face Cards are 0 points. Other cards are treated as face value (note that Ace is worth 1 point). For each side, total the card value. If the card value is double-digit, only the second digit is counted. For example, if the Player side has a 9 and a 3 value card, the total is 12. However, only the second digit is counted, resulting in the final value being 2.

Draw another card if the side’s value is 0 to 5

If the Player or Banker’s total value is between 0 and 5, the dealer draws another card for that side and adds to the value.

Stand if the side’s value is 6 to 7

If the Player or Banker’s value is 6 or 7, no additional cards are drawn for the side.

Natural win if side’s value is 8 or 9

Whichever side (Player or Banker), hits the 8 or 9 is a winner. There is no need to draw another card.

The side with the value closest to 9 is the winner.

The side (Player or Banker) whose hand value is closest to 9 is the winner. Pay out the players who placed bets on the winning side.

A Tie

If the result is a win for both Player and Banker sides or their values are equal, it is a TIE. The player who bets on a TIE result wins.

Paying out winners

The dealer will pay out players who bet on the winning Player or Banker side 1:1. Note that in a casino, the dealer will take a 5% commission from players who win on a bet on the Banker. For players who bet on a Tie result, the dealer will pay those players 8:1.
