What are the rules for the card game Crazy 8s?

Go Fish is played using a deck of 52 standard playing cards. Players are dealt cards who then try to collect the 4 suits of the card ranks in their hand by fishing from other players or taking from the card pool, known as the ocean.

How many Crazy 8s cards do you start with?

Each player is dealt 5 cards at the start.

Crazy Eights can be played with the University Games kids version or with a standard deck of playing cards.

Crazy Eights Card Game Setup

  • Shuffle all the cards
  • Select a dealer to deal 5 cards to each player face-down
  • Form the Draw Pile by placing remaining the cards in the center
  • The dealer picks one card and places it face-up next to the draw pile to form the DISCARD pile
  • If you pick an 8, place it back in the deck and pick again

8 cards are wild cards and represent any number or colour.

How to Play Crazy Eights Card Game in simple steps.

The player on the dealer’s left plays a card

The player on the dealer’s left plays a card that matches colour (suit if you are using a standard card deck) or a number of the top card of the discard pile. Play continues to the left, we each player playing their card.

Pick a colour or number if you play an 8

If you play an 8, you can pick a colour (suit if you are using a standard card deck) or number for the next player to match.

Draw a card if you can’t play your card

If you do not have a playable card, you need to draw a card from the draw pile. Keep drawing till you get a playable card. If there are no more cards in the draw pile, your turn passes to the next left player.

Winning Crazy Eights

The first player to discard all their cards wins.
