Solo Mode in Earth Board Game
- Solo mode follows most standard game rules but pits the player against an AI named Gaia.
Setup
- Player Board:
- Use the solo side and choose a difficulty level: Beginner, Medium (upper action spaces), Hard, Expert (lower action spaces).
- Gaia’s Board:
- Place Gaia’s board next to your player board with Leaf tokens.
- Shuffle Gaia’s deck of 6 cards and place it facedown.
- Set up spaces for Gaia’s active card, Compost, and faceup scoring cards.
Player’s Turn
- Actions are the same as in the normal game. Always finish your action and card abilities first, then resolve Gaia’s action as the “other player,” taking the variable benefits.
- Gaia gains benefits according to the difficulty level:
- Blue Action: Gaia gathers Sprouts (1VP per Sprout).
- Yellow Action: Gaia stacks Growth, scoring 1VP per Trunk or Canopy completion VP.
- Red Action: Gaia composts cards (1VP per card).
- Green Action: Gaia places cards in her scoring pile (scores base VP at endgame).
Gaia’s Turn
- Draw and Reveal:
- Draw the top card from Gaia’s facedown stack and place it faceup.
- Player takes the upper ability (if any) first, then Gaia takes the lower ability.
- Yellow Action:
- Player’s yellow abilities determine Gaia’s number of Growth pieces.
- Gaia does not count Event cards.
- Red Action:
- Player’s red abilities determine Gaia’s number of Soil.
- Gaia gathers Soil until she reaches 10, then converts to Compost (10 Soil = 5 Compost).
- Revealing Gaia’s Brown Fauna Objective Cards:
- Follow directions on the card.
- Place Gaia’s Leaf token on the highest available VP tier next to a Fauna card.
- Apply additional effects if playing Beginner or Expert mode.
Alternating Turns
- Play alternates until Gaia activates her last card.
- Shuffle Gaia’s deck and reset for a second use.
Endgame
- Game ends when Gaia’s deck is exhausted a second time or the player completes a 4×4 tableau.
- The player ending the game claims a 7VP bonus on the Fauna board.
- Scores are then tallied.
Scoring
- Player scores VP as in the standard game.
- Gaia scores points as follows:
- Base VP from faceup scoring pile (negative values are positive for Gaia).
- 1VP per Sprout.
- 1VP per Trunk or Canopy completion VP.
- 1VP per Compost card.
- VP from Leaf tokens on the Fauna board.
- Gaia does not score points from Terrain or Ecosystem cards.
Team Mode (2 vs 2)
- General Rules:
- Follows the same rules as the regular game, but players work in teams.
- Set up the game as usual, with teammates sitting beside each other.
- Resource Sharing:
- Players can place earned resources (cards, Compost, Soil, Sprouts, Growth) on their side of the shared Team board.
- These resources must be taken by either teammate before the end of the current turn or they are discarded.
- Team Collaboration:
- Teammates can openly discuss strategies and resource needs.
- Decisions on actions, resource collection, and card selection are made collaboratively.
- Turn Order:
- Turn order follows the player number sequence (1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, etc.).
- End of Game
- Teammates combine scores and team with highest VP wins.
